Water Damage Drywall Repair in Newbold, Philadelphia, PA: A Successful Project for Cody and Steve
Project Completed: November 2024
If your home or business in Philadelphia has suffered from water damage, you're not alone. In the Newbold neighborhood, we recently completed a major water-damaged drywall restoration job for our clients, Cody and Steve. Their basement had been flooded, causing significant damage to the drywall and framing, requiring professional restoration. Here’s how we helped restore their property to its original condition.
The Problem: Flood Damage and Water-Damaged Drywall
Cody and Steve experienced a serious basement flood which caused extensive water damage to their walls and framing. Their waterproofing contractor had removed about two feet of drywall and framing around the perimeter of the basement to install the french drain. While this removed the damaged materials, it left the space exposed and in need of professional restoration.
The Solution: New Framing and Drywall Installation
After assessing the damage, our team got to work. The first step was to replace the framing that had been removed due to water damage. Proper framing is essential to ensure the stability of the drywall and to prevent future issues, such as mold or shifting walls. Unlike others, who will use the cheapest materials possible, we only use ground contact rated pressure treated lumber for basement sil plates. (The part of the wall that touches the ground)
We also use ramset nails or tapcon screws to fasten the sil plate to the basement floor to prevent wall movement and drywall joint failure.
Once the framing was in place, we moved on to installing the new drywall. We made sure the existing drywall was properly secured to the studs at the new joint. Most contractors will skip this step, and will just attach the new drywall to the framing to save time.
This is a common cause of joint failure and future drywall cracks, as if the old drywall isn’t properly fastened right at the new transition, expansion and contraction will cause the joint to crack over time.
After completing the drywall installation, we ensured the walls were flat and smooth, providing Cody and Steve with a fresh, durable, and professional finish.
